What are the available instrumentations to measure in the air?
To measure nanoparticles in the air, two types of instrumentation exist: the specific instruments which analyze some particles or the totality. Among those, it needs to be distinguished counters and granulometers, transportable (monitors, samplers) or portable. The counters provide a global number of particles and the granulometers specify the size distribution. A global count of the particles will be less precise and will not permit the detection of small leaks. Measures may perform in real or deferred time.
Condensation Particle Counter (CPC).
Condensation Particle Counter give the number of particles in the air without any precision about their size. Particles are detected by distribution of the light after growth of particles in a saturated vapor. Various systems using the water or the alcohol as the liquid of condensation are available in portable or transportable version. Time of measure: minimum 30 s. Limits of detection: 2.5 nm.
